Name: Kenkai
Age: 27
Contact:
Other Characters: Prompto Argentum
Interests: Look, someone’s got to instill the fear of the Maker into Darton for marrying Bethany and keep him in line. Especially since Marian’s up and gone missing.
Okay in all seriousness, Carver’s a great character and I’m really interested in seeing him helping out the Inquisition and what he can do, especially out from under his older sister’s shadow and without the tight constraints of the Grey Wardens. Also, the more Wardens the merrier.

History
Wiki link
- After standing with Marian against the templars and fleeing Kirkwall, he hid in the Free Marches with Bethany until it was deemed safe. He took Dog and separated from his sister.
- He resumed his duties with the Grey Wardens and spent a lot of time in the Deep Roads on various assignments.
- Heard the false Calling but he wasn’t able to reach either of his sisters. Bethany finds him later and after explaining what happened, they parted again. Carver decided to stay with the Wardens to ensure the Deep Roads didn’t remain unchecked, as he suspected there might be a mass exodus given Clarel’s stupidity.
- The Calling goes away, but Carver remains uneasy and wonders what happened.
- He resurfaces. With no word from Weisshaupt and a slew of unsettling rumors, he decides enough is enough and heads back to Kirkwall to find Bethany and join this Inquisition he’s heard about.
Personality
“I died my way into the Wardens and you punched your way to Champion. We are esteemed.”
Long having lived under his oldest sister’s shadow, and having felt ignored by his father, who spent most of his time with his sisters to teach them magic, Carver always felt like the odd one out. He never really found his place when he was young, having always had to move around to avoid the scrutiny of templars. From that childhood sprung a well of resentment that lasted into adulthood. After they fled to Kirkwall, his sister’s shadow grew, and he railed against his identity as “Hawke’s brother”. However, his own indecisiveness and bitterness prevented him from really going out and doing anything to change his circumstances. He mostly just complained, and went along with his sister anyway. That didn’t stop him from butting heads with her, and lashing out at her over his feelings of inadequacy. He became known for his bitterness and his sour attitude. Carver loved to complain about his situation and argued with Marian over her ideas, but he never offered a solution as to how to fix it either.
That changed when he joined the Wardens with Bethany. Out from his sister’s shadow, Carver did a lot of growing up and maturing. His sibling rivalry and childish concerns paled in comparison to the horrors he faced in the Deep Roads and the solemn duty of the Wardens. He made a niche for himself in the Wardens, found a purpose, and made his own name, so to speak. When he does see his sister again later on, though some of the old resentment lingers, it’s not as sharp as it was. He’s much surer of himself, and even admits that he was a “bit of a tit back then”.
For all of Carver’s shortcomings, he’s still a decent person. He loves his family dearly, and would do anything for them. Part of the reason he remained at Marian’s side was because he was still loyal to her. Yes, he resented having to run from templars his whole childhood, but he would have just as easily gone after them if they dared to lift a finger at Marian or Bethany. It can be hard to get him to come around, but once you do, you have a very loyal friend. He always tries to have his loved ones’ best interests at heart, even if he’s not always great at showing it.
As the years have passed, his confidence has grown, which has led him to actually be a bit more humble. He doesn’t boast like he used to; rather, he’s painfully aware of his shortcomings and has tried to make up for them.
Opinions & Affiliations
Carver’s been with the Grey Wardens since he was 19. He has immense respect for them, but that doesn’t translate into blind loyalty. He recognizes the Wardens are not above making mistakes, thanks to recent events, but he still believes in their cause. Right now, he just feels that’s better carried out within the Inquisition rather than through the Wardens.
Growing up with three mages has left him with a rather skewed view of mages in general. He never saw magic as dangerous growing up, because he was so used to it and only saw magic handled by his father and sisters, who were responsible with it. Kirkwall taught him the dangers that come with it. But there was resentment towards it for a long time, so he never cared much for the plight of mages and whatnot, as he had to spend his life on the run thanks to the three in his family. Nowadays, that resentment’s lessened a lot. He’s got other things to worry about anyway.
Carver doesn't care much for the Qunari. They were a constant presence during his time in Kirkwall, but he wasn't there for the attack. He's said he'd never join the Qun, and his feelings about the Qunari are ambivalent at best.
He's never had strong feelings about the Chant and he's not especially religious. He went to Chantry services, although he never quite took to it like Bethany did (he was more in it for the pretty red-haired lay sister that told stories). The Chantry as an organization doesn't interest Carver much, either.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths:
- Has a really large, two handed sword which he’s good at hitting people with
- He’s a Warden, so he can do all those Warden-y things like sense darkspawn, kill darkspawn, and navigate the Deep Roads.
- He was in Cailan’s army for a short time, so he knows what it’s like to be part of a large organization like the Inquisition. He can take orders and even give them if necessary, even if “listening to authority” isn’t always his strong suit
- Despite appearances, he cares. A lot. He’ll go out of his way to help, though be prepared for him to complain about it the entire time.
Weaknesses:
- Not always great with authority. Better than he used to be, but Carver’s still got a bit of a rebellious streak in him. This will rear its head if it’s something he’s told to do that he doesn’t agree with at all.
- He’s still a bit of a sour puss so he won’t win any awards for stellar attitude.
- Again, he likes to bitch a lot. He’s gotten better but he still will do it.
- There are a handful of things he really cares about. Outside of those, he probably doesn’t give much of a crap unless it directly affects him or his loved ones.
- He tends to be very blunt. Don’t ever let him be a diplomat.
Inventory
- Seeker of the Gray, his longsword
- The standard Grey Warden armor set for warriors
- Dog, Marian’s mabari. Per Bethany’s history, Dog was left with Carver when they separated. The old codger won’t be doing much battling anymore due to his age.
Motivation
He wants to join the Inquisition mostly for Bethany and to have access to the resources to find Marian, but also because he no longer feels he can carry out his duties as a Warden through the order. With things going as they are, he’s decided the best place for him now is with the Inquisition, especially with how many other Wardens have joined up.
